Group Commends Consumer Product Safety Commission for Taking First Step Toward Banning Lead in Children

Yesterday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) took a long overdue first step toward banning lead in children’s metal jewelry. We have known for decades that lead can cause permanent developmental damage in children or even death, so we commend the CPSC commissioners for voting to protect children from lead exposure.

Arizona PIRG Education Fund Alerts Shoppers To Toy Hazards

Hazardous toys are still sold in stores across the country, according to the 21st annual toy safety survey released today by the Arizona PIRG Education Fund.  While we can report substantial progress after more than two decades of advocacy on behalf of America’s littlest consumers, the Arizona PIRG Education Fund still found trouble in toyland.

Vote Coalition Contacts Students Across the State

As of 6:00 PM MST, still an hour before the close of polls, the Arizona Student Vote Coalition has held one-on-one conversations with over 9,600 students about voting in the week leading up to Election Day. 2,180 of these contacts have been made today, on Election Day.

Vote Coalition to Contact 10,000 Students before Election Day

Students from across the state have formed the Arizona Student Vote Coalition to make sure that students and the issues that they care about receive attention during the 2006 Election. The Arizona Student Vote Coalition registered over 4,000 students to vote, and now plans to educate and contact over 10,000 students from across the state by Election Day.

Consumer Groups Call for Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Investigation of Online Advertising and Consumer Tracking and Targeting Practices

The Center for Digital Democracy (CDD) and the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG), two of the leading public-interest advocacy groups working on behalf of a more diverse and competitive online environment, filed a complaint today with the Federal Trade Commission calling on the commission to undertake an immediate, formal investigation of online advertising practices.
