Coalition Launches Campaign To Increase Youth Voter Turnout In Arizona

The Arizona Student Vote Coalition, a group comprised of the Arizona Students Association (ASA), Arizona Public Interest Research Group (Arizona PIRG), and the state’s university student governments, held a news conference today to launch their statewide effort to increase youth voter turnout. The event, which took place at the State Capitol, was organized by the student-led coalition to highlight students leading the way in registering and encouraging their peers to vote.

New Report Details Jobs and Economic Growth Opportunities in Arizona from Renewable Energy

At a news conference today, the Arizona PIRG Education Fund released a new report entitled "Renewing Arizona's Economy: The Clean Energy Path to Jobs and Economic Growth". The report documents the economic development potential of renewable energy (such as solar and wind power) in Arizona, focusing on how investing in renewable energy will lead to jobs and increased economic output. In addition, the report examines how renewable energy can save water and improve public health. The report comes as the Arizona Corporation Commission is considering an increase to the state's Environmental Portfolio Standard.

Water Quality Legislation Moves To Senate

Representative Tom O’Halleran and representatives of the Arizona Public Interest Research Group (Arizona PIRG) and the Northwest Arizona Watershed Council joined together today to urge swift adoption of water legislation that recently passed the House and is now before the Senate. Arizona PIRG also released a new policy paper, "Our Water, Our Future: Policy Options to Safeguard Water Resources in Arizona." The policy paper documents the main threats to Arizona’s water supply and details policy recommendations to ensure enough water for our future.
